REGULARLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Frequently Asked Questions
What are the best coffee beans to buy?
There’s no single “best” — it depends on your taste and brew method. For everyday drinks choose a balanced house blend; if you want complexity try single-origin beans like Kenya or Ethiopia; for a bold, familiar taste choose a darker roast with chocolate and nut notes.
Are whole beans better than pre-ground coffee?
Yes — whole beans stay fresher longer because less surface area is exposed to air. Grind just before brewing for the best aroma and flavour. If you buy pre-ground, choose a roaster that grinds on dispatch.
What is the difference between artisan, speciality and premium coffee?
Artisan coffee refers to small-batch roasters focusing on craft. Speciality coffee meets quality standards scored by trained cuppers (SCA scoring) and emphasises origin and processing. Premium often denotes higher-quality sourcing and packaging; BEANN combines artisan roasting with speciality sourcing for best results.
How do I choose between light, medium and dark roast?
Choose based on flavour preference: light for bright, fruity and floral notes; medium for balance and sweetness; dark for deeper, toasty chocolate and caramel notes. If you’re transitioning from supermarket dark roast, move gradually towards lighter roasts to let your palate adapt.
Can I use light roast beans for espresso?
Yes, but light roasts require careful dialing-in and may taste higher in acidity when extracted as espresso. Many home baristas use light-medium roasts specifically labelled or recommended for espresso.
How long after roasting should I drink my beans?
Freshly roasted beans undergo degassing. Many find peak flavour 3–14 days after roasting depending on roast and origin, although you can use them sooner. BEANN prints roast dates so you can track freshness.
